Angelfights.ca currently facilitates 'Be a Pilot' Experience wish flights around Ottawa, Ontario for pediatric oncology patients who are being actively managed by The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. 

 

The flight experience is exceptionally unique and very memorable for a patient and their family members because these flights are conducted by a Transport Canada Class 1 Flight Instructor, and as such the patient is legally permitted to fly the aircraft under the direct supervision of the instructor.   

 

At least one parent or guardian must be present in the aircraft, which is typically a 4 seater single engine Cessna.  A GoPro video SD card of the flight experience is provided free of charge.  Angelfights does not keep or publish any photos or videos or any information regarding any of these flight experiences due to patient confidentiality.

 

The phases of flight during which the patient is permitted to fly (take-off, climb, cruise, descent, landing) are entirely up to the discretion of the instructor.  The pilot patient sits in the left front seat, and does not need to reach the pedals.  The aircraft are wiped down with hospital grade antibacterial disinfectant wipes prior to each flight, and the instructor wears an ASTM F2100 Level 3 mask throughout the flight.​  ​

Note that angleflights.ca also previously facilitated free air transportation (using small single engine aircraft and volunteer pilots) for family members of patients to travel primarily from remote areas of Northern Ontario to larger airports or so that they could travel to visit their hospitalized loved ones, when such transportation would otherwise be virtually impossible due to financial and/or geographic limitations.   We are not providing this service at this time.
